The month for Virtual Book Club for Kids we are featuring book inspired activities to go along with Pete the Cat books by Eric Litwin!
We came up with a fun name activity to go along with Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons. We are also featuring several other favorite activities from our Virtual Book Club for Kids blogging friends!
If Pete the Cat books by Eric Litwin are new to you I highly recommend buying these favorites that we are featuring this month as part of Virtual Book Club for Kids:
Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons
Pete the Cat I Love my White Shoes
Pete the Cat Rocking in My School Shoes
You can read more about them here in my post over at the VBC website.
For our Pete the Cat and His Groovy Buttons name activity we first made our own Pete the Cat out of cardstock. You could also easily just print off a Pete the Cat coloring page and use that too.
Materials Needed:
- Pete the Cat (made out of paper or just use a coloring page printed off, Google Pete the Cat coloring pages)
- Colorful cardstock cut into circles (for buttons)
- Black marker
- Tape (optional)
- Laminating sheet or contact paper (optional)
Directions:
After we made our Pete the Cat by cutting some pieces out of colorful cardstock, we drew buttons on Pete using a marker and wrote the kid's names on the buttons.
Next we made colorful buttons using pieces of cardstock. We cut them out and wrote the kid's names on them too. If you want them to last longer, laminate them.
After our buttons were made, I hid the buttons all around our playroom.
The kids ran around to try and find the buttons and once they found them they brought them over to Pete and matched them to the correct names.
We played again and again. Sometimes I hid the names, sometimes my daughter hid the names. My toddler also had fun hunting around with us and looking for his name. After playing for awhile he could tell the difference between his name and his sister's name.
He had fun re-arranging the names and matching them to the right buttons too!
We also read Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons before and after we did our name activity. My kids love to read it again and again.
If you like Pete the Cat you might enjoy some of these other awesome Pete the Cat inspired activities from my Virtual Book Club for Kids blogging friends. If you did your own Pete the Cat activity, pop on our to our VBC facebook page wall and share it with us!
